Composer’s Notes
“Overture to Sleuth” is the music I wrote for the Main Titles of the film of that name, based on the successful play by Anthony Shaffer. It is a mystery story with only three characters, Played in the film by two actors: Sir Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine. The background footage of the Titles consisted of still photographs of miniature toy theatres, and the music is a sort of tongue-in-cheek pastiche of a variety of styles of theatre music. The score received an Academy Award Nomination”
